Thailand expels Gary Glitter to Britain

LONDON (AFP) — Former glam rocker and convicted paedophile Gary Glitter left Thailand for his native Britain early Friday, three days after being released from a Vietnamese prison.

The British foreign ministry confirmed Glitter's departure to London after Hong Kong refused to let him in early Thursday.

"We can confirm he has left Bangkok for the UK," a Foreign and Commonwealth Office official told AFP.

Glitter, 64, was released from a Vietnamese prison on Tuesday after serving nearly three years for committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12.

He had been booked to fly that night to London via Bangkok, but refused to get on the plane to Britain and instead spent 24 hours in a transit lounge in Bangkok before agreeing to take a flight to...
