'Olympic Pandas' enjoy life in Beijing after surviving quake: report

BEIJING (AFP) — Eight pandas from China's quake zone, who were flown to Beijing in May for the Olympics, are gaining weight and will stay in the capital while their home is being rebuilt, state media said Friday.

The cubs are in a newly expanded glass enclosure, where man-made trees and swimming pools -- and a weekly shampoo -- create a homey environment, according to Xinhua news agency.

"They are fully adapted to the climate and life here in Beijing," Zhang Jinguo, deputy chief of the Beijing Zoo, told Xinhua.

Zhang said the bears, aged from one to two years old, had gained from 1.5 kilogrammes (3.3 pounds) to 2 kilogrammes during their stay at the zoo.

"Now their appetite has become so good that they eat twice as much (as when they first arrived)."...
