Media circus arrives for Democratic Convention

DENVER, Colorado, (AFP) — More than 15,000 journalists are descending on the Rockies for the Democratic Party's convention even if the outcome -- Barack Obama's coronation as presidential nominee -- is in no doubt.

The mammoth political gathering gets underway on Monday before Obama brings the tickertape down on Thursday with a speech before a packed crowd at Denver's 75,000-seat Invesco Field that will be seen by millions on primetime television.

The army of media personnel will outnumber the 4,000 or so Democratic Party delegates by a ratio of almost four to one.

Reflecting the Obama campaign's success in harnessing the power of the Internet, a brigade of several dozen bloggers will also be in attendance, including one from each of the 50 states.
