Iraq parliament speaker leaves hospital after heart surgery

AMMAN (AFP) — Iraq's parliament speaker Mahmud Mashhadani has been discharged from a military hospital in neighbouring Jordan after successful surgery for heart problems, a hospital official said on Monday.
"Mashhadani left Al-Hussein Medical Centre on Sunday night after treatment. He was in good health," the hospital official told AFP without elaborating.
It was not immediately clear if he had left Jordan.
Iraqi embassy officials have said that Mashhadani, who was admitted to hospital on August 12, underwent "successful" surgery.
Jordan's King Abdullah II visited him during his treatment to check on his progress.
