Pernod Ricard to take over US distribution of Absolut

NEW YORK (AFP) — French spirits giant Pernod Ricard sealed an agreement Thursday for US distribution of its newly acquired Absolut vodka brand starting October 1.

US-based Fortune Brands and Pernod Ricard announced an early termination of the US group's distribution rights for Absolut, which had been set to continue to 2012.

Pernod Ricard will pay Fortune Brands 230 million dollars while Fortune Brands will pay 100 million dollars to Pernod to acquire the premium Cruzan Rum brand.

"This is a win-win agreement that provides significant benefits to Fortune Brands," said Bruce Carbonari, president and chief executive of Fortune Brands.
