McCain confirms Palin as running mate: official

DAYTON, Ohio (AFP) — Republican presidential hopeful John McCain on Friday confirmed his choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his White House running mate, his office said.
"Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president," his office said in a statement.
"Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president," it said.
