City make bid to snatch Berbatov

MANCHESTER (AFP) — Manchester City have made a 30 million pounds (36.9 million euros) bid to sign Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to a report on Monday.

An Abu Dhabi-based consortium are on the verge of buying City from Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra and Sky Sports News claimed they have sanctioned an audacious move for Berbatov, who is also wanted by Manchester United.

European champions United have been negotiating with Spurs for several weeks but were reluctant to meet the London club's asking price and City are apparently trying to steal Berbatov from under the noses of their local rivals.

However, the Bulgaria striker may still prefer to move to Old Trafford rather than Eastlands as United are firmly established as one of the game's leading...
