LYON, France (AFP) — Japan's Kazushi Ono on Monday officially took up his new position as principal conductor of the Opera de Lyon, the opera house in the southeastern French city said.
Ono, 48, who has not yet arrived in Lyon due to professional engagements elsewhere, is beginning a five-year stint that he will kick off on September 20 with a concert featuring works from Bernstein and Stravinsky.
Ono -- previously music director at La Monnaie opera house in Brussels -- is scheduled to take the Opera de Lyon on tour to Japan in 2009.
