Broadfoot called up for Scotland's WC qualifiers

GLASGOW (AFP) — Defender Kirk Broadfoot has been selected by Scotland manager George Burley for forthcoming World Cup qualifiers following a number of withdrawals from the squad.

Scotland meet Macedonia on Saturday and then Iceland four days later in their opening matches on the way to possible South Africa 2010 qualification.

Broadfoot has enjoyed an impressive start to the season and performed particularly well in Sunday's Old Firm derby, helping Rangers claim a 4-2 win at Celtic Park.

The 24-year-old defender, who can play at full-back or centre-half, could now make his international debut.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield has also been added to the squad as back-up for Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor after Norwich keeper David Marshall pulled...
