GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (AFP) — Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris suffered a "serious" spleen injury but could yet return sometime in his National Football League season, coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday.

Harris was hurt during Sunday's 27-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was clearly on several occasions and came out of the game twice, once after colliding with Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk in the first quarter.

McCarthy's comments were the first confirmation by the Packers that Harris had a spleen injury.

McCarthy said in a press conference that a cautious approach needs be taken, but that Harris might be able to play later this season.

"I'm hopeful that he'll be back," McCarthy said. "The time frame just hasn't been established."
