Congress to probe Sosa's baseball testimony

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Baseball star Sammy Sosa's sworn testimony that he didn't use illegal performance-enhancing drugs will be examined by a US Congressional committee after a media report that he tested positive in 2003.

Congressman Edolphus Towns, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a statement on Wednesday that the committee "always takes seriously suggestions that a witness misled the committee while testifying under oath."

He said the matter would be reviewed and "upon learning the results, I will determine appropriate next steps."

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Sosa tested positive for a performance-enhancer - it did not name the drug - in 2003, when Major League Baseball conducted supposedly anonymous "survey"...
