In A League Of Its Own

There were a lot of bloodshot eyes during breakfast at the Fourth Street Grill in St. Louis's Millennium Hotel on the morning of Oct. 28, 2004. The last 24 hours had exhausted Bob Bowman. He missed lunch and dinner the day before as he met with his bosses-owners of Major League Baseball franchises-who had gathered in the city for the World Series. A busy afternoon of business turned into a long night of celebration (for some) as the Boston Red Sox erased 86 years of misery by beating the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series for the first time since 1918. If there ever had been a Curse of the Bambino, it was now extinguished.
