It’s sporty, but practical

Toyota ’ s Matrix is downsizing made simple. With the five-door hatchback, there ’ s no compromise on hauling capacity. The engine is spry and the somewhat stiff suspension keeps the car tight on canyon roads. You ’ ll have to forgive its odd, angular looks.

Gauges: Cheerful red and white illuminated gauges are fun, and needles on the speedometer and tachometer spring to life on ignition, instantly spinning 180 degrees and back again.

Seats: The sport cloth is stylish and durable, a nice feature when carrying the tiniest family members. Pronounced bolsters on either side of torso and thighs keep you in place while cornering.
