Nicholas G. Ottaviano, 93, of West Chester, a retired businessman and paving contractor, died of heart failure Monday at Barclay Friends, a retirement residence in West Chester.
He was a longtime resident of Upper Darby before moving to West Chester about seven years ago.
Mr. Ottaviano's first job was as a sales clerk at an Upper Darby American Store grocery, the predecessor to Acme Markets. He then worked as a driver for Montco Foods and delivered nylon stockings, fruit and produce in three states. He eventually was named manager of a company warehouse in South Philadelphia.
In the early 1950s, Mr. Ottaviano started his own businesses: Haverford General Contractors and Haverford Paving. He supervised 30 employees and worked out of his home in Upper Darby. ...
