Four area bank call centers to close this year

Bank of America Corp. plans to close four call centers within 90 minutes of Philadelphia by the end of the year as it consolidates offices and jobs acquired in recent mergers.
The bank, based in Charlotte, N.C., will close call centers it acquired from FleetBoston Financial Corp. in Horsham, Montgomery County, and Christiana, Del.; and from MBNA Corp. in Greenville and Dover, Del., the company said yesterday.
The Dover center, at the former Blue Hen Mall on the outskirts of the state capital, employs about 630 workers; the Horsham center employs about 600, Bank of America spokeswoman Alexandra Liftman said. Those jobs will be eliminated, though some workers may be able to find positions at the company's remaining Wilmington-area offices.
