Rohm & Haas expects 29% leap in quarterly profit
Rohm & Haas Co. said yesterday that first-quarter per-share earnings were likely to be 29 percent higher than year-ago earnings. Higher profit was coming in while oil prices were soaring, which typically has added costs to chemical-company operations. The Philadelphia company said it expected to earn
from 90 to 93 cents a share in the first quarter, compared
with 70 cents a share a year ago. Rohm & Haas said it had strong performances in its electronics materials division, which sells specialty chemicals to computer-chipmakers, and in its largest chemical businesses.
