Temple closes in on a new leader

Temple University's next leader will likely be Ann Weaver Hart, president of the University of New Hampshire and a candidate said to possess a management style nearly opposite of the man she would replace.
After reviewing 35 serious candidates and interviewing eight of them, Temple's presidential search committee unanimously settled on Hart, chairman Daniel H. Polett confirmed last night. That decision may have been made easier by the recent withdrawal of two finalists for the position.
John A. Fry, the current president of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster and a favorite of many at Temple, said Wednesday he had withdrawn from consideration. He was at one time chief operating officer of the University of Pennsylvania.
