Orchestra to take a tour of the neighborhoods

The Philadelphia Orchestra is touring the provinces - assuming such things are measured by city blocks. The 2006 Neighborhood Concerts will take place at Villanova University Stadium on July 3, Penn's Landing on July 5, and Wiggins Park in Camden on July 7. All the concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and will be led by associate conductor Rossen Milanov.

Begun in 2000, the free, outdoor neighborhood concerts have attracted audiences as large as 8,000 people. The July 3 and 7 concerts will be weighted toward colorful Slavic works, such as Shostakovich's Festive Overture and Stravinsky's suite from The Firebird.

The July 5 concert is more ambitious, including Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, Italian, mainly because those works accommodate the...
