PIAA hoops finals on the move

The PIAA state basketball championships are leaving Chocolatetown.

The PIAA board of directors voted, 17-12, at a meeting Thursday in Chambersburg to move the finals from Hershey's Giant Center to State College's Bryce Jordan Center for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. A third year is optional, as the PIAA can extend the contract or re-bid the championships after the 2008 season.

"They basically gave us the building rent-free," PIAA execute director Bradley Cashman said of selecting the arena located on Penn State University's campus. "The only charge we are going to incur at the Bryce Jordan Center is 4 percent of the gross ticket sales. That compares favorable for us from a financial standpoint."
