One night when she was 19, Claudia McBride went home from her job as a clerk-typist and exclaimed to her mother: "There's got to be something better than this."
That determination ultimately resulted in something much better when she was recently named president-elect of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.
Her journey began with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology, and a minor in political science, from the University of California at Los Angeles and included an assignment as coordinator of international marketing for the Timberland Co. in Munich, Germany.
She started at the World Affairs Council in 1987 in the program department and became vice president and program director in 1996. She officially becomes president July 1, succeeding Buntzie Ellis Churchill, president since 1983 and with the council since 1964.
