Villanova business school gets new, simpler name

Opting for simplicity, Villanova University has given its business school a new name: the Villanova School of Business. The old name - the College of Commerce and Finance - dated from the school's founding in 1922.

Over the years, most universities have deleted the word "commerce" from their business schools' names, going instead with something "a little more sleek and modern," said Bethanie Anderson, the school's assistant dean.

Business dean James Danko, who came to Villanova from Dartmouth College in 2005, said he found the old name "antiquated" and at first wondered whether he was dealing with a full-fledged business school or an academic department.
