Newsmakers | Burstyn's small role causing big uproar

0 Comments | Philadelphia Inquirer, The, August, 2006 | by Tirdad Derakhshani

No one deserves an Emmy - or any other award - more than the incomparable Ellen Burstyn.

But the Oscar winner's third Emmy nod is causing a rising tide of bile, of agita, not to say of outrage: "It's an outrage," (see?) said Emmy expert Tom O'Neil, a columnist for TheEnvelope.com, E!Online reports.

The angst is over Ellen's nomination for a measly 15-second appearance on HBO's Mrs. Harris. The last mini-role situation to raise such ire and bile was Judi Dench's Oscar win for her 10-minute Shakespeare in Love walk-on.

A TV Academy rep said the nomination, which is "based on the popular vote," is considered "legitimate," adding a minimum time requirement might be considered for next year.
