Making Rowan greener

Color Rowan University green. Officially, the university's colors are brown and gold, but after increased recycling and energy conservation efforts, the Glassboro campus now has an environmentally friendly green hue. "We've explored many ways to make our campus greener, including upgrading our cogeneration plant," said Donald Farish, Rowan's president.

"And, of course, students and professors in many of our programs are conducting research on environmental issues, from wind energy to alternative fuels." In a 10-week period that ended in April, students recycled 40,673 pounds of materials - a little more than 36 pounds per person - enough to take third place for their first year of competition in RecycleMania, a national recycling competition among colleges and universities....
