Needing a boost on D, Flyers may turn to Leetch

The Flyers would like to sign former New York Rangers great Brian Leetch to bolster their power play and strengthen the defense, which may be without the injured Mike Rathje for an extended period. General manager Bob Clarke confirmed yesterday that the club had contacted Leetch's agent, Jay Grossman, and was waiting to hear back from him.

"We wanted to see if Leetch was available," Clarke said. "We told him we'd like to talk to the player. We still don't know if Rathje will be out long-term." Rathje is suffering from a herniated disk in his back that may require surgery. A decision is expected today, Clarke said. Leetch is a 38-year-old future Hall of Famer and an unrestricted free agent.
