IN THE REGION Par Pharmaceutical says it can make generic Zofran Par Pharmaceutical Cos. said it has won U.S. approval to make generic copies of GlaxoSmithKline P.L.C.'s nausea treatment Zofran to be sold by a unit of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. The ruling by the Food and Drug Administration gives Par 180 days of exclusivity as the first company to file for approval, the Woodcliff Lake, N.J., company said.

Zofran, used to prevent nausea and vomiting in patients being treated with chemotherapy or radiation, was London-based GlaxoSmithKline's fifth-biggest-selling drug in the third quarter, with $419 million in worldwide revenue.
