Cards' late burst foils Pats' slowdown

Central Bucks East did everything it could to slow the pace of last night's PIAA District 1 Class AAAA girls' basketball playoff semifinal against Upper Dublin.

The Patriots had some success, limiting the high-scoring Cardinals to just 24 field-goal attempts. But that strategy had run its course by the beginning of the fourth quarter, when Upper Dublin broke open a one-point game with an 8-0 run and posted a 39-30 victory at Norristown High.

"We can play any kind of game any team wants to play," Upper Dublin coach Vince Catanzaro said. "I think we were pretty patient with the ball, especially in the fourth quarter. You didn't see any of our players jacking up shots."
