Katz-Corzine quandary

We've been so accustomed to money-grubbing politicians of late, I never imagined that a politician giving away his money could pose a problem.

But that's the conundrum posed by the latest news of Gov. Corzine's largesse.

The beneficiary, according to the Newark Star-Ledger, continues to be his former girlfriend, Carla Katz. About a year and a half ago, as he ran for governor, Corzine disclosed that he had written off a $470,000 loan to Katz. The governor reportedly even paid $160,000 in gift taxes on the forgiven loan. (Wouldn't that count as another gift?)

Then just last week, in an interview couched in as many hypotheticals as there were in O.J. Simpson's short-lived book, If I Did It , the governor left the impression that he actually had been even more generous to Katz.
