White-collar pay rising faster in high-growth economies than in U.S.

Pay increases for white-collar workers in the United States will substantially lag those in China, India and Eastern Europe in 2007, the Hay Group of Philadelphia reported today.
Adjusted for inflation, pay hikes for administrative, professional and senior management employees are predicted to rise 1.4 percent this year in the U.S compared with about 8 percent in high-growth economies, the report said.
"Much like their colleagues in Europe, U.S. employees will be seeing relatively modest increases in base salaries when compared to the emerging economies," said Iain Fitzpatrick, general manager of Hay's U.S. Reward Information Services. "Projected 2007 increases are fairly consistent with real increases seen in the U.S. over the past several years."
