George W. Kopf | Boeing engineer, 81

George W. Kopf, 81, of Media, a retired Boeing engineer, died of cancer March 24 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kopf graduated from the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. During World War II, he served in the Navy as a gunner's mate aboard the destroyer USS Jouett, supporting troop landings in the Normandy invasion and subsequent action in northern France.
After his discharge, he married Evelyn Werhel, who also grew up in the Cabbage Hill section of Lancaster, and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Purdue University.
He and his wife moved to Media when he joined Boeing as a metallurgical engineer. He retired in 1988.
