One million cribs recalled after 3 die

The suffocation deaths of three children in cribs made in China have led the manufacturer, Simplicity Inc., of Reading, to recall one million cribs sold in the United States between January 1998 and May 2007.

Although manufactured by Simplicity, many of the cribs carry the logo of Graco Children's Products, a manufacturer and distributor based in Exton.

Children can suffocate in these cribs if the drop side becomes separated from the crib, creating a dangerous gap.

"The most important thing is that the word gets out to the consumers, so every parent knows to make sure to check the crib or go on the Web site and check if their product is affected," said Ken Waldman, president of the privately held Simplicity, which is voluntarily recalling the cribs.
