Pete Massaro can pinpoint the moment he realized being a Penn State football recruit made him a pseudo-celebrity. It may not be a tale that will rank up there with the Marple Newtown High senior's all-time Nittany Lions memories, but it puts into perspective the pedestal upon which major college recruits sit.
Massaro, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end, gave a nonbinding oral commitment to Penn State in August. In October, he made his official visit to the State College campus. The Lions were hosting Wisconsin, but before kickoff Massaro had to make a pit stop. "I was going to the Porta Potti," Massaro said. "And I'm wearing my Marple Newtown jacket.
