Richard H. Golder, 85, a former cancer researcher and professor of biochemistry at Temple University, died Sunday of renal-cell cancer at his home in Bala Cynwyd. Besides his professional accomplishments, Dr. Golder was a single father, raising his children after the death of his wife, Vida, in 1973, when their son was 3 and their daughter was 6.

He was born in Philadelphia and later moved to Perth Amboy, N.J., where he graduated from high school before going to the University of Wisconsin, said his daughter, Michelle Camperson of Bala Cynwyd. Dr. Golder served in the Army during World War II. He obtained his doctorate in chemistry at Temple University in 1957 and did postdoctoral studies in Germany as a Damon Runyon Fellow.
