Emily McKay Binns, 77, of Devon, a former nun who became a longtime theology professor at Villanova University, died of heart failure Monday at her home. Dr. Binns, who retired two years ago as the chair of Villanova's Theology and Religious Studies Department, died peacefully of natural causes, said her brother, Philadelphia lawyer James J.
Binns. She was born and raised in Mayfair, and joined the Sisters of St. Joseph in Philadelphia after graduating from St. Hubert's High School. While living at the convent, she earned a bachelor's degree in classics at Chestnut Hill College. Later, she earned a master's degree and a doctorate in religion and theology at Catholic University of America.
