Philip H. Ward III | Lawyer, 87

Philip H. Ward III, 87, of Chestnut Hill, a lawyer and recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals in World War II, died of congestive heart failure March 18 at his home. Mr. Ward was a 1938 graduate of William Penn Charter School. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1942 from Princeton University and immediately enlisted in the Army.

Mr. Ward was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for combat in Okinawa and the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946 as a captain. After Mr. Ward graduated from Harvard Law School in 1948, he practiced corporate law with the Center City firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoades until retiring in 1979.
