Phillies Notes Righthander Tim Lahey, claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Friday, made his Phillies debut in yesterday's 5-3 exhibition loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. A former catcher at Princeton University who was converted into a pitcher in the Twins' farm system, the 6-foot-5 Lahey allowed a run in one inning, surrendering four straight singles.
"It took me a while to get into my rhythm, and I got the ball up - and I'm a sinker-ball pitcher," said the hard-throwing Lahey. "But considering the situation, I felt good, and the ball felt good coming out of my hand." The Phils hope Lahey can eat up some innings in relief. "One door closes and another opens up," Lahey said. "I'm very excited to be here." Numbers dept. The Phils finished with a .243 batting average...
