The Washington Nationals had to correct themselves yesterday. A day earlier, they said they had agreed to a minor-league contract with Olmedo Saenz, a journeyman first baseman who was with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. Actually, they struck a deal with infielder Ray Olmedo, who hit .216 with one RBI in 51 at-bats with Toronto last year.
Olmedo was released by the Phillies on Friday. Diamondbacks. Lefthander Randy Johnson, 44, was one of three Diamondbacks placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday, retroactive to March 22, as Arizona finalized its opening-day roster. Arizona also put catcher Miguel Montero (broken index finger) and infielder Chad Tracy (knee surgery) on the disabled list. Johnson has had two back operations in less than a year. Orioles. Baltimore released Jay Gibbons, an oft-injured outfielder who hit 26 home runs in 2005. Gibbons, 31, played in only 84 games last season. Baltimore owes him ...
