Francis stars in Temple's spring scrimmage

Lined up near the right sideline yesterday, Temple wide receiver Bruce Francis knew the play was good for six points. Seconds later, the Owls' main deep threat was catching a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Vaughn Charlton. It was the biggest play of the afternoon as Temple concluded its spring drills with the annual Cherry and White game.

The play helped the Cherry defeat the White, 21-6. "It was a post, but you're not going to run a post with a deep safety in the middle, so we converted it to a streak," said Francis, who stayed to the outside on the pattern, "We had an inside guy running a post to hold that safety.
