Sports in Brief: Hamlin wins race at Richmond as Harvick is second

Local favorite Denny Hamlin used a late pit stop for tires to foil the strategy of fellow NASCAR stars Kevin Harvick , who finished second, and Carl Edwards , who ended up seventh, blowing by them to win the Nationwide Series Lipton Tea 250 last night at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia.
Earlier, Hamlin won the pole for tonight's Sprint Cup Dan Lowry 400 with a lap of 126.198 m.p.h. at the Richmond track. The pole was the sixth of his career. Meanwhile, Edwards, who briefly explored free agency, said he signed a multiple-year contract extension to continue driving the No. 99 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing. Golf Paula Creamer battled a vicious wind en route to an even-par 71 and a 3-stroke lead over Hee Young Park after two rounds of the SemGroup Championship in Broken Arrow, Okla.
