Cougars hire Ellis to coach football

Dan Ellis, who quarterbacked Downingtown to a PIAA Class AAAA state championship in 1996, is the new head football coach at Springfield-Delaware County. Ellis, 29, was the offensive coordinator at Bayard Rustin last year. Before that, he held the same position for four years at Downingtown East.

"I'm very excited," he said. "Being a head coach is something I've wanted to do ever since I got into coaching. This is a great opportunity." At Rustin and Downingtown East, Ellis used a spread-type offense. "I'm not sure yet what we'll do at Springfield," he said. "We'll do whatever our personnel allows us to do."
