Vince Fumo released from hospital

HARRISBURG - State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo (D., Phila.) was discharged from a hospital yesterday morning after suffering a spell of dizziness and collapsing on the Senate floor late Thursday afternoon. Doctors at Harrisburg Hospital said the collapse was caused by a combination of factors, including slight anemia, low blood sugar, dehydration, and the toll of long hours and erratic eating habits during this last week of budget negotiations in the Capitol, said Gary Tuma, Fumo's spokesman.

Additional blood tests will be done Monday. Physicians ordered Fumo, who has suffered two heart attacks, to a day of rest yesterday. But the longtime senator, who has been a key player over the years in crafting state budgets, was available to consult by phone with legislative leaders and...
