Sister Theresa Marie Shannon, 89, who for many years taught elementary school in the region and elementary and high school in Philadelphia, died Saturday at Lankenau Hospital. Sister Theresa Marie professed vows as a Sister of Mercy in 1940 and began her career teaching elementary school that year at St.
Barbara School in Philadelphia. Over the years, she also taught at Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and St. Raymond in the city. In the suburbs, she taught at St. Joseph School in Summit Hill, St. Thomas of Villanova in Rosemont, and St. Denis in Havertown. Sister Theresa Marie, who held a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in library science from Villanova University, began teaching high school in the city in 1955. Her...
