As airlines cut flights, it's likely more will be on time

Some days you just don't know where to start. Looking back over the last few weeks, I couldn't decide which bit of bad news about the airline business to focus on. So instead, let's look first at some good news for those who fly.

Here's one bit: Your flights this fall and winter stand a better chance of operating on time. That could be one of the more noticeable effects of the airlines' planned deep cuts in capacity, or putting fewer planes in the sky, especially in the congested airspace around Philadelphia and New York.

Need more? Even without reduced flight schedules, US Airways was able to trumpet its on-time performance in May. According to U.S. Department of Transportation data, it has had one of the best on-time records among major carriers for six months in a row. That is really good news to me because ...
