The Flyers will pay homage to the Spectrum - where they won their first Stanley Cup in 1974 - when they return to their former home for a preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes at 1 p.m. Sept. 27. Comcast-Spectacor has announced that this will be the final year of the Wachovia Spectrum, which is the home of the Phantoms and Kixx.
The building will be demolished to make room for a proposed hotel, retail and entertainment complex. The preseason game against the Hurricanes "will be a wonderful opportunity for thousands of our fans, who used to attend our games at the Spectrum or watch them on TV, to come back one last time and see the Flyers in our old home," Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider said in a statement.
