Construction begins today on a $713,444 project to replace the Red Hill Road bridge over the Tinicum Creek in Tinicum Township, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

The new bridge is expected to open in June 2009, PennDot said.

Red Hill Road will be closed between Hollow Horn Road and Frankenfield Road. Traffic will be detoured over Hollow Horn Road, Oak Grove Road and Frankenfield Road.

The new new bridge will be 51 feet long and 26 feet wide, with two 10-foot travel lanes and two 2-foot wide shoulders, PennDot said. The roadway approaches will be reconstructed to straighten an S-curve.

The existing single-span encased steel I-beam bridge, 24 feet long and 18 feet wide, was built in 1910.
