Home runs have been the masking agent covering up the Milwaukee Brewers' deficiencies, like not hitting when it counts and bad defense.
The Phillies also use the long ball to negate some of their flaws, and they also are not considered a stellar defensive club.
Neither team homered in Game 1 of the National League Division Series yesterday at Citizens Bank Park.
But the Phillies did play good defense and got the only clutch hit they needed, while the Brewers flubbed away early runs to the other team and swung quiet bats, resulting in a 3-1 Philadelphia victory.
"One little hiccup," interim manager Dale Sveum said. "[That] got them to another hitter that obviously busted the game open."
