NEW YORK -- TV pioneer Kay Koplovitz is aiming to become the newest star of reality TV. The founder of USA Networks and the Sci-Fi Channel is returning to cable TV as chairman of Reality Central, a start-up network geared to shows such as Survivor , The Bachelor and Joe Millionaire.
Started by CEO Larry Namer, who founded the company that became E! Entertainment Television, and COO Blake Mycoskie, a contestant on Amazing Race 2 , the Los Angeles-based channel is to launch in mid-2004. The 24-hour channel will air U.S. and European reality shows and news and talk shows hosted by reality personalities, Mycoskie says.
More than 100 former reality contestants, such as Survivor 's Richard Hatch, have been signed to pitch the network and as on-air talent.
