Internet sites help level playing field for tourists

Chances are you've seen them. Most often, they're spotted on street corners in major cities, seemingly searching in vain for something off in the distance while fumbling with a laminated fold-up map.

Yet as common -- or necessary -- as that may be, it's a scene most travelers attempt to avoid at all costs.

Such is the plight of the tourist. They boldly and bravely set out to a visit a strange new city, yet they tread that fine line between artfully navigating their new surroundings and simply looking like a tourist.

Indeed, earning that "tourist" label can make even a veteran traveler feel a twinge of embarrassment. However, leave it to the Internet, long an ally of the traveler, to help level the playing field.
