* New excavations are leading to a new understanding of the Dawn of the Maya (PBS, tonight, 8 ET/PT, times may vary). This National Geographic special, which includes never-before-aired footage of recent discoveries, takes us back thousands of years to Maya civilization.

* Good luck setting your recorders for Fox tonight. The network kicks off with a 45-minute episode of That '70s Show (8 ET/PT). That's followed by a 10-minute commercial for an upcoming Fox movie that, if it wants an ad here, can go ahead and buy one. The night winds up with what promises to be a painfully extended, hour-and-five-minute American Idol results show (8:55 ET/PT).
