* There are times when athletes -- try though they might to avoid it -- inevitably become entangled in world events. PBS' superlative documentary series American Experience examines one of the most infamous examples in The Fight (tonight, 9 ET/PT, times may vary), a film about the 1938 boxing match between American Joe Louis and German Max Schmeling. As fighters, they symbolized the coming battle between democracy and fascism, racial equality and Aryan supremacy. But as men, they became friends, which may be the most unexpected entanglement of all.
