Residents of Fla. 'FEMA Village' wary of Wilma, still weary from Charley

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Aida Florit and her husband, Robert, have been living in a government trailer here in "FEMA Village" since shortly after Hurricane Charley flattened their home in August 2004.

She is weary of life in the makeshift mobile home park, which she says is riddled with crime. They were supposed to be in a new home by the end of October, but that's been pushed back to Thanksgiving.

Now, Hurricane Wilma may be headed their way. Fourteen months after Hurricane Charley battered this southwest Florida community of backyard canals and breathtaking vistas, the 160,000 residents of Charlotte County still feel the aftershocks.

"Yes, we're anxious," says Florit, 69, standing amid half-packed boxes of her belongings. "We watch The Weather Channel a lot....
